ICONIC FESTIVAL LOOKS

From Kate Moss to Alexa Chung, take inspiration for your next festival outfit from these greats.

GO SHORT AND SWEET
Whether your festival is in picturesque Somerset or the Nevada desert, shorts are a perennial festival favourite. Keep them hot-pant high with a floral print – à la Rosie Huntington-Whiteley – or opt for the frayed but classic ‘oh, these old things?’ denim cut-offs, as seen on the likes of Alexa Chung and Kate Moss. When the weather is nice opt for bare legs to show off a summer tan and, if it’s not, they’ll pair just as well with tights and wellies.

RAIN CHECK NOT REQUIRED
Usually found in the wardrobes of the country set, the waxed jacket is so attuned to outdoor life that it was only a matter of time before it made its festival debut. Waterproof your weekend with a waxed jacket and accessorise with brightly coloured base layers – a slouchy jumper dress or, take a leaf out of Kate Moss’s style book and throw on an oversized sparkly T-shirt with a studded leather belt at the hips. You could also follow Bradley Cooper’s lead and simply wear your waxed jacket with jeans, a T-shirt and a million-dollar smile.

THESE BOOTS WERE MADE FOR DANCING
Rain can turn the most idyllic site into a muddy morass in moments, so its small wonder that the festival crowd favour a wellington boot. As modelled by Kate, Alexa, Rosie et al, mud-splattered Hunter wellies complement a host of festival looks, from ditsy print tea dresses and dungaree dresses to ultra-skinny rock-chick jeans and yes, those denim cut-offs. If the barometer is fair, ankle boots will see you through from the bleary-eyed breakfast queue to late-night chillout session.

ONE PIECE IS ALL YOU NEED
Don’t waste precious festival fun time styling an outfit – all-in-one playsuits and dresses are your fail-safe pack. Whether you opt for a wild print or keep it plain, an off-the-shoulder ruffled bohemian-style sundress has a lovely carefree vibe – just ask Sienna Miller – and is easily accessorised with statement sunglasses, biker boots and a cute cross-body bag.

KEEP IT QUIRKY
Larger than life fashion choices guarantee you’ll stand out in the festival crowd. Dare to try double denim (well, if it’s good enough for Alexa) or repurpose a waistcoat as a sassy sleeveless top and pile on the jewellery – we’re thinking layers of silver, turquoise, bangles and beads, and not forgetting the armful of rainbow coloured festival wristbands.

MORE IS MORE
Mirror the stars you’ll be seeing on stage and crank up the studs, fringed details and statement accessories. Whatever the weather, hats are a must to save day-old hair and there are plenty of options. Try a Kanye West-style beanie or a Bieber-esque baseball cap. Stylish brimmed styles look great too – pull a felt fedora low over your eyes or keep the rays at bay with an old-school cowboy hat.
