Five Step Pre-holiday Prep

Because soft, sun-soaked skin is #goals…

Kildare Village

If it's dewy, glowing skin you're after, you've come to the right place. Your pre-holiday prep is down to five essential steps.

1. THE FACE MASSAGE

This will de-puff your skin, tighten pores, improve elasticity and blood circulation and even balance your chi. Need we say more? A DIY face massage using a jade or rose quartz facial roller will soothe and brighten tired skin in the weeks before you jet off for sun, sea and sangria.

Step 1: Cleanse your face and moisturise your skin.

Step 2: Starting from the neck or jawline, move the facial roller in an outward or upward direction – stick to one way – until you reach the forehead.

Step 3: Repeat at least twice a week.

2. THE CLEANSING OIL

If you’ve always avoided oils in your skincare routine, it’s time to rethink that choice. Cleansing oils have been known to remove everything from make-up to excess dirt from pollution, all without stripping the skin of its natural oils. And yes they’re friendly for every skin type.

Step 1: Start with clean dry hands.

Step 2: Rub the cleansing oil, about the size of a penny or one pump, in the palm of your hand to gently warm it.

Step 3: Massage the oil into your skin – moving from chin to forehead – in small circular motions for a few minutes.

Step 4: Soak a muslin cloth in warm water to wipe the oil the away.

Step 5: Moisturise as usual.

3. THE MIRACLE MASK

We think you’re ready for this jelly… the mask that is. It’s time to give up face masks that belong in Friday the 13th. With soothing, antiseptic ingredients such as aloe vera and honey, jelly masks are ideal for dehydrated skin – sun bathers rejoice!

Step 1: Scoop a small amount of the mask and work it into a paste using clean, dry hands.

Step 2: Apply it to the face and let it work its magic for a few minutes.

Step 3: Wash off with warm water or a cloth.

4. THE VITAMIN BOOST

Before you get some ‘vitamin sea’, your body needs a little extra vitamin C and E. Buff away dead skin and reveal skin so radiant it would make a Victoria Secret’s model jealous with a body scrub loaded with citrus essential oils, almond and jojoba oils and Himalayan sea salt a day before take-off. Gentle exfoliation + ultra-hydration = glowing skin for days.

Step 1: Apply the scrub generously on to wet skin, covering everywhere but the face.

Step 2: Use a body brush to scrub gently in a circular motion for a few minutes. Rinse off and moisturise.

5. THE LIP TINT

Lusting after a popsicle-stained pout for your long-haul holiday? We hear you. Here’s how to perfect the lip stain, whether you’re pool-side lounging or island hopping.

Step 1: Exfoliate your lips – any lip scrub will do the trick.

Step 2: Starting inward, dab the lip stain – we’re partial to MAC’s Versicolour Stain – evenly on both lips.

Step 3: Once the lip stain is in place, add a thin layer of lip gloss or lip balm for extra shine and you’re good to go.
